Police: Maddie did die in flat
Sunday, July 6, 2008
Missing Madeleine McCann could not have been abducted, Portuguese police are said to have concluded.
The final police report suggests the youngster died in the family's holiday apartment in Praia Da Luz on the Algarve, it was claimed.
Police have no evidence the youngster's parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, were involved in the disappearance of their daughter on May 3 last year.
The couple, who strongly deny having a hand in her possible death, say they last saw Madeleine when they left the three-year-old sleeping in the flat while they went out for dinner.
But an exhaustive 13-month investigation showed it was 'theoretically impossible' the youngster was abducted, the newspaper Correio da Manha said.
Forensic tests on the apartment's window, through which an abductor might have carried Madeleine, revealed no traces of the girl.
The McCanns, both 40-year-old doctors from Rothley, Leicestershire, were made suspects in the case in September. They were unavailable for comment.

***************************************************************************
What I would like to know is why have they not told the McCann’s this? They have 0 on them therefore they have a right to know if this is true. Maddie is their CHILD.

How is abduction impossible? If she did die in the flat then perhaps a stranger went in and harmed her then left with her.

Who lives in PDL..?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/crime/article2681658.ece
Possible escape routes aside, one of the most convincing arguments I have heard for an abduction by a local came from my colleague at Liverpool University, Professor Kevin Browne:
Compared with other countries in Western Europe, Portugal convicts a much smaller proportion of child abusers. Children are more likely to be removed from their families, ending up in institutions while their abusers walk free. As a consequence, there are not only potentially more abusers within society unmarked and unmonitored, but a of whole new generation of people with an increased likelihood of becoming abusers because of their own experiences.

This comes back to the police investigation. It has been reported: They have no evidence therefore whose fault is that?

Sky News 3:35pm UK, Tuesday May 08, 2007
It is claimed that the police responded too slowly to news of Maddie's abduction, wasting the crucial first few hours and failing to alert border police until the morning after she went missing.
McCann’s should start suing the Portuguese Newspapers for printing these stories and out the source – once and for all.

The McCann's should sue the Portuguese Newspapers for printing these stories***

I don't believe madeleine died in the flat at all.How they can say they have no evidence of an abduction so therefore she must be dead is totally bizarre...is that normal for a copper to say????Oh we cant find a shred of evidence she was abducted so she is dead???
Hmmmmmmm Ok so are we to take it they have evidence to the contrary then??.no they don't.

Infact right in the begining of this case the pj stated in a live interview that they have evidence to prove she was abducted....wonder where that evidence as suddenly gone to. And we all know that madeleine was running around the apartment each day so her DNA would have been everywhere!!!

And not being funny but what about touch DNA???? which I think is the type you leave behind by a simple finger stroke on a door knob for example....The abductor would have had to touch something...he didn't magically appear in the room. The floor in the apartment was tiled and we all know how when you walk along tiled floors you sometimes leave a perfect mark on it. Sometimes you cant see it when you look at it but if you get down on your knees and look across the floor in a certain light you can see where people have walked. The tiles would have been like scellotape taking a perfect imprint surly?almost like putting your finger on a window then taking a look from another angle..you would see a mark.

I cannot believe that some one went into that room without without leaving a single trace of themselves. no way.

When cops from the uk went over to pdl to carry out test etc in the apartment they found that the mysterious fingerprints on the shutters(which the pj were baffled about) actually belonged to that of a pj member. This confused me because each and evryone of the people who were in that apartment or had access to it..including ex holiday customers were tested and eliminated from the inquiry...BUT why did this cop from the pj get missed????why was the finger prints of a cop left undetected on the shutters all that time???

I know a cop befriended the mccanns whist on holiday...he allowed his children to run and play with the mccanns children and even socialised of an evening with them to.wonder why he didn't help in the initial search for madeleine??he was on holiday however his place of work only 30 miles away in portamaio???when kate and gery were took in for questioning he didnt tlk to them at all..infact kate was taken back by his arrogance....that could be him being professional mind you and not getting emotionally involved in the case however i have been wondering why a cop from potamaio would be 30 miles away on holiday socialising with a British family who's daughter is about to get abducted.Im not saying anything sinister as gone on here, but it makes you wonder doesn't it?

I think if a person i had befriended was in need i would atleast show my respect to them..if i couldnt get personally involved. And to be honest with you in my opinion if he befriended the mccanns whilst on that holiday then he is a witness and should have made a statement etc so would have been involved anyways. I dont think theres anything wrong with going up to a person if your a cop to show your respect and maybe explain the difficult situation your now in...especially if you knew them!!!Infact I think its darn ignorant if you don't.

ARRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH this is winding me up.

Clairsey, are you sure that a cop befriended the Mccanns whilst they were on holiday? Where did you find this information from? Curious because I read that the liaison officer De Sousa I think his name was, invited them to dinner whilst in Portugal, but this was after Madeleine went missing not before.

Clairesy,
yes I remember this, weird set up.
The McCanns later learned it was Det Insp Luis Nevas who ordered the heavy grilling which left the couple feeling betrayed as he had previously befriended them.

You know what helen,,

i cannot seem to find a report i read before ..it was a long time ago however i have googled my bum off here and cant get nothing up on this guy. Christabel thanks for posting the link there im not sure of the guys name it could be him but obviously i don't know his name...I just remember reading that whilst on holiday before madeleine was taken the mccanns sat and ate food with a police man who befriended them...he allowed his children to play with the mccann children. It was odd because when madeleine went missing a lt of people questioned where this cop had gone to???ive tried googling different words to try and get a report up on it but to no avail although i will keep trying. It could be the same one in the link Christabel posted though?

Im not the only one who as read it though.... infact I was told about it by someone else before I learnt it.And ive read other posts on sky about him at times to.GAWWWWWD wish i could get something up on this.I will try again for ya helen

Madeleine Dying in The Flat

Post by dianeh on Thu Jul 17, 2008 10:23 am

In reference to the article

1. Abduction isnt impossible. I think that the evidence (or lack of it) would need to be investigated by someone such as the former FBI profiler who has commented on this case. He has said that often abduction leaves no traces. When the little aussie girl was abducted a couple of years ago (she is the same age as my son, who is coming up to 3), the only trace was a cut wire screen. No fingerprints (police suspect gloves) and no trace of DNA of any sort whatsoever. There was no evidence of anyone having been in the room other than the cut screen (and the parents could have done that themselves). But because there is no evidence to suggest foul play, it is classed as an abduction. She was abducted from a bed where she was sleeping between her two siblings (inthe same bed) and they never woke up. Also, if Madeleine wandered off (which I doubt as CC was left behind), then there would also be no forensic evidence in the apartment of close by - but then where is she?

2. If no evidence of Madeleine's demise in the apartment (such as blood or body fluids or DNA, and no witnesses and no body), then how can she be proven to be dead. I have said before, there is not enough evidence to have her declared dead in a court of law. It would not pass a coroner's inquest in Australia, and probably Britain.

It is also of note that the Portuguese papers themselves cannot agree on what has been given to the magistrate, and as to what evidence there is or isnt, and as to what recommendations have been made. They dont know and are once again relying on leaks. I am not going to lose any sleep over this article because since it came out, there have been other contradicting it, saying that there is no recommendation, as the police do not know what happened.

I think that this policeman actually came into contact with the McCann's after Madeleine disappeared and not before.

Kate was reported as being upset and knew something was wrong when she spoke to this policeman because he could not look into her eyes and his tone changed.

In all fairness this may have been because he was placed in a bad position, because of course he has to obey and follow orders, but having got to know the McCann's more since Madeleine's disappearance felt awkward.

However, I believe that this policeman was one of those that interviewed Kate when she was made arguida?

I believe this policeman was as near as the McCann's got to having a family liaison officer and I have doubts as to the purpose of his presence in the McCann's lives. But then to be fair he is a policeman and don't forget it was a police liaison officer that informed on Karen Matthews!

ModNrodder, don't think Gonc's book is going to see the light of day. I am sure that the Mccanns lawyers will be monitoring this. We'll just have to wait and see what is revealed on Monday. What I will say is that it is obvious that no charges are to be brought at this stage, if that was the case then we wouldn't be hearing about it in a public statement. I think this statement will be worded very carefully given the recent payouts and pending proceedings against Portuguese newspapers.
