McCanns: Time for a new Maddie hunt.

Published: Today

POLICE in Britain and Portugal were under increasing pressure yesterday to reopen the Maddie McCann case after The Sun revealed how sightings of her had been ignored.

Maddie's parents Kate and Gerry have asked Home Secretary Alan Johnson to order the search to be relaunched.

Backs call ... Goncalo Amaral

Even their arch enemy, former Portuguese police boss Goncalo Amaral, has said the case should be reopened.

A Portuguese police case file obtained by The Sun showed how little has been done with new information about Maddie, who was three when she vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3, 2007.

Last night a top human rights lawyer, who claims to have seen Maddie, joined calls for a new probe. Manuel Jimenez, who works for the EU, said his report of seeing a girl "extraordinarily similar to Madeleine" in Santander, Spain, in September 2008 was ignored.

Mr Jimenez felt other leads may have been treated the same. He has made several requests to a court in Portimao, Portugal, where Maddie inquiry cops were based, but all have been rejected.

The Sun has revealed a series of leads in Portuguese police files gathering dust. Kate and Gerry, both 41, of Rothley, Leics, recently called the treatment of Maddie's disappearance "inhumane".

Even Amaral, who was responsible for having them named as suspects before being taken off the case, said: "The important thing is not talking of sightings, but reopening the process."

Well Amaral would say that wouldn't he? He has no choice the scumbag, to say anything else would bring him even more trouble than he has already! Personally, I think he is still reeling from the attack on TV from Miguel Tavares, he didn't expect that and it is now probably starting to sink in that he is in a very precarious position and one he placed himself in, with his lies, libel and defamation. Goncalo Amaral has some cheek asking for the reopening of this case, seeing as it was him that fouled it up completely for five months and it was his best mate Ricardo Paiva, who has fouled it since it was shelved and handed over to him by Paulo Rebelo.

This whole thing stinks to high heaven of wall to wall corruption. I agree with Gerry McCann, the reopening of this case is immaterial, it needs a complete review of everything and that includes the conduct of Goncalo Amaral and Ricardo Paiva and anyone else who is found to have deliberately perverted the course of justice and withheld information from this investigation. A complete review would see all the leads be followed up and the investigation would open up again anyway.

Above all what is needed is a team of cold case detectives, or the specialised kidnap detective team from Scotland Yard, going to Portugal and working alongside their Portuguese counterparts and also having the Yard's Holmes technology at its disposal, this would help tremendously, as it would be able to analyse the tens of thousands of scraps of information. Why wasn't this done right at the beginning of this investigation? Scotland Yard offered this to Goncalo Amaral, why the hell did he refuse their help? And why isn't it being offered again now?

Madeleine McCann is a British citizen and a minor, she is also a ward of court, this means the state has care and control of her and her welfare and they are supposed to be doing everything they can to help find her.

I think that it is now time to apply pressure to the Home secretary and you can do this via your own constituency MP. Write or email him/her, state that you want to see Alan Johnson the home secretary liaise with Portugal, with a view to sending specialised detectives out to Portugal to work WITH the Portuguese detectives and that Holmes should also be put at the new investigation's disposal. Insist that your MP should contact Alan Johnson himself and NOT David Hanson, who knows next to nothing about this case and who will only prattle on about, protocol, primacy and jurisdiction, NONE of which should be used as an excuse to do nothing as Hanson is doing!

Above all else Amaral and Paiva should NOT be allowed anywhere near any review or reopening of this case! they have already been allowed to do irreparable harm to Madeleine and her parents, without being allowed to do further damage.

I agree with you Rosiepops, the more heavy / stronger pressure in both countries, the better, the more increasing heavy / stronger pressure in both polices, the better. Scotland Yard, now, immediately.

Last night a top human rights lawyer, who claims to have seen Maddie, joined calls for a new probe. Manuel Jimenez, who works for the EU, said his report of seeing a girl "extraordinarily similar to Madeleine" in Santander, Spain, in September 2008 was ignored.

So here we have another human rights lawyer, Manuel Jimenez also calling for a review and a new investigation. A lawyer who himself has reported to the investigation that he saw a girl remarkably like Madeleine in Santander, Spain in 2008 and yet again it was ignored! How many more times is this going to be repeated? How many more people who have had their reports to the PJ ignored? One of my main fears is that, if these are the claims we know that were ignored, how many have actually come into the investigation and have failed to be logged and have been filed away in the rubbish bin?

  • Paulo Rebelo MUST have known about this happening then, why did he keep quiet about it?
  • Why was control of this investigation handed over to Ricardo Paiva and inexperienced detective who is the best pal of disgraced former PJ coordinator Goncalo Amaral?
  • Why has Ricardo Paiva been allowed to compromise the investigation and himself by testifying for Amaral?
  • How much information has been thrown directly into the bin?

When is the Portuguese government going to do something about this? It is NOT going to go away, this is going to keep happening until they act.

  • Goncalo Amaral must be arrested, made a formal witness and be made to tell what he knows.
  • Ricardo Paiva must be sacked for gross deriliction of duty and then made a witness and be forced to tell what he knows.
  • A brand new team without any connection what so ever to Amaral and Paiva, must be deployed to this investigation.
  • Specialised detectives from Scotland Yard MUST be included in this new team.
  • Scotland Yard's Holmes technology MUST be used in the new investigation and review.

Until these steps are taken, people with children should consider staying away from Portugal because until these abductors are caught, any child in Portugal, resident or non resident is at grave risk. This is going to happen again and it will happen soon, if it hasn't already happened and being kept secret under Portugal's insane secrecy laws.

GA says "The important thing is not talking about sightings, but reopening the process", I disagree with GA when he says the important is not talking about sightings", are you insane? Yes you are, About the case reopened, Yes, but not with GA or Paiva around. Sack Paiva immediately, bring Scotland Yard immediately to Praia da Luz, to be in charge of the investigation, with the assistance of the PIs, and PJ.

Re-open the case, and investigate all the sightings thoroughly. In addition a review of the original case using technology such as Holmes to cross reference everything, and equally important, review the actions of the investigation team. Have they acted properly, according to world's best practice (ummm, let me think for a minute), have they acted improperly in a manner that warrants charges laid, are the police procedures adequate, can the be improved, should additional checks and balances be put in place, should there be a separate body to report police corruption to, etc etc.

Lots to be done.

But want we want most, is for Madeleine to be found, and those responsible (including anyone that colluded with the abductor) to be found and brought to justice.

Pedro

I disagree, he is not insane, he just thinks that the rest of us freaking stupid. Unfortunately for Amaral, he is not more intelligent than the rest of us, and one of his biggest mistakes has been in underestimating the intellegence of the average person. He thinks he is far superior in intelligence and logic, and that is what will bring him down. Conceit always comes before a fall.

AND Of course the sighting must be investigated. It was NOT investigating sightings that aided the abductor in the first place. Just how stupid is Paiva, if he thought that he wouldnt be rumbled for doing this. Surely they dont believe they are untouchables. They cannot possibly be so stupid as to believe they are above the law.

Re: McCanns: Time for a new Maddie hunt.

Post by Rosie on Sat Mar 06, 2010 10:19 pm

I have written yet another letter to my constituency MP, this letter is in addition to the letters I have written to various people which I have mentioned previously. Here is a copy of that letter dated today March 6, 2010.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear **************,
Thank you for your recent letter dated 19th December, 2009 regarding the investigation into Madeleine McCann's disappearance from Praia da Luz, The Algarve, Portugal on May 3rd, 2007.
You included a reply from the Minister of State the Rt Hon David Hanson MP, in which he detailed why this government could not send a specialised team to Portugal to assist with this investigation.
Needless to say, I was less than impressed with his reasons for doing nothing, which he laid out in the letter you kindly enclosed.
The "reasons" Mr Hanson gave showed that he had not read my concerns correctly, and also showed how little he actually knew/knows about the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance. Had he read my concerns properly, he would not have alluded that this was a Portuguese investigation as he would have quickly realised that indeed, there is NO investigation, Portuguese or otherwise, and this is my (and others) whole point in trying to contact Alan Johnson the Home Secretary.
For a considerable time we have been trying to convey to Alan Johnson, that the Portuguese were not investigating new leads, not investigating any information being reported to the "investigation", in fact nothing was being done to find this child and her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann were being left to flounder in the dark with a very small team of private investigators funded by themselves, this is the only team investigating Madeleine's disappearance and as good and as experienced as Dave Edgar and Arthur Cowley are, they have no jurisdiction on Portugal and therefore cannot legally follow leads as and when they come in and they have no powers.
I have tried on numerous occasions to contact the home secretary by email and all I get is the run around, they simply offload my mails to the Commonwealth Office, who issue a number, leave a suitable gap and then respond with yet more buck passing and excuses why they cannot do anything. It is NOT up to the Commonwealth Office, it is for Alan Johnson to take control of this situation, if he doesn't, the way things are going this is going to turn into a diplomatic incident, one that can be avoided. I promise I will not keep quiet about the fob offs I have had from the government concerning this child's welfare! I am not gong to be put off by some unknown person responding to my emails and fobbing me off to the Commonwealth Office and the Department for Children Schools and Families .
I believe this is a matter for the home secretary to sort out immediately, too much time has already been lost, if this was a child of the prime minister or David Cameron, we all know the response would be hugely different and it should not be, one child's life is equally as important as the next.
Recently, a number of things have come to light that actually prove what we have been saying all along. I outline it here:
Goncalo Amaral, the disgraced former Policia Judiciaria coordinator recently tried to overturn a ban on his his book (it failed the ban was upheld), which the McCanns claim libels and defames them and harms and hinders their search for their daughter.
Goncalo Amaral called a witness by the name of Ricardo Paiva, who is currently the head of the shelved investigation. During cross examination from Mr Mrs McCanns libel lawyer Dra Isabel Duarte, it was revealed that Ricardo Paiva had been ignoring information being reported and that in existence was a huge dossier of information that has been ignored and has not been investigated, this dossier is marked "Not Relevant To The Investigation". Here we have a clear admission that absolutely nothing has been done or is being done to find this child or discover what happened to her and the people responsible for this heinous crime caught and punished.
This whole investigation is a farce and a fiasco from start to finish and at the center of it is an innocent little child who is being ignored. i want to know what is being done to assist Mr Mrs McCann.
The McCanns themselves have recently called for a full review of this investigation and this is the very least that should happen, it should have happened automatically by now, but it has not. The Portuguese government are trying to sweep this under the carpet, but they should know that this is not going to go away, we will not allow it to go away, something must be done.
Little girls do not just disappear from their beds at night without trace. The Portuguese government have tried to hide this because of the harm to their tourist industry, I would put it to them that they have inflicted far more harm on their 2.8 billion tourist industry by trying to ignore this, rather than deal with it effectively.
I would like to bring these concerns to home secretary himself, I am NOT satisfied with David Hanson's reply, it shows complete ignorance of this investigation.,
** ************* please could you see that my concerns are put before Alan Johnson personally? He has recently met with Mr Mrs McCann and so has the Conservative leader David Cameron.
This should NOT be a political issue, this should be cross party, the life of a child is at risk here, as we speak she could still be alive and being held captive and unspeakable things which I cannot even allow myself to think of could be happening to her, yet the British government and the Portuguese government do nothing! Can you imagine ** ************* the price that could be asked for "time" with this poor little girl? I cannot bear to think of it, I have children and grandchildren myself, for God sake when is something going to be done about this terrible situation?
Might I remind the home secretary once again, that Madeleine McCann was made a ward of court by Mrs Justice Hogg in June, 2008 and this means that Madeleine is a ward of this state and so the government have a legal obligation to see that every single thing that can be done is being done to help find this child, it is obvious nothing is being done and they should stop this deplorable buck passing.
Mr Mrs McCann are indeed being left alone to find their daughter and I defy David Hanson to tell me and others otherwise.
The government should liaise with Portugal as a matter of extreme urgency and get a team out to Portugal from Scotland Yard, either the specialised kidnap team or the cold case team and the Yard's technology, "Holmes" should be put at this team's disposal to help with the thousands of bits of information.
David Hanson should re-read my concerns, I have never once suggested that detectives simply be sent into Portugal to take over, I have always stressed to work ALONGSIDE their Portuguese counterparts, to form a team. Why would protocol, primacy and jurisdiction get in the way of this? All that is required is simple negotiations, this would actually help the Portuguese government as people like myself would then be assured that something was being done, it would lift the pressure.
Please help Madeleine and her parents.
Sincerely
***************************
*** ************ ******, ************, ************** **** ***.
For those that may have missed this, here is the FIRST reply I received from the Minister for State Rt Hon David Hanson, via my MP. The above letter is in addition to others that I have also written since I received the letter below.
It is indeed very possible that another child could be abducted, but I have to admit that it never crossed my mind that it could be covered up by the secrecy laws, although this is highly likely in the light of what we now know.
This thought is very frightening.
Thank you Pedro, Ill let everyone know when I receive an answer, however what is also concerning me at this time is that we are heading into a general election very soon and the prime minister is going to ask the queen to dissolve parliament, I hope this doesn't mean that Alan Johnson ceases to work on matters like this.
Sabot, the thought really terrifies me. How would a family like Joana Cipriano's family bode against these people? Look at what it has taken Kate and Gerry McCann and the cost to their lives, just to get to this point, it is scary beyond belief. Unfortunately, I think it is entirely possible this has already happened and it has been hushed up, after all how on earth would the Portuguese government explain it away? If it has happened to a Portuguese national, then it is only a matter of time before it happens to another family on holiday. It is obvious this is a serial abductor/s, for whatever reasons, I believe Madeleine was not the first and she will not be the last.
