Sara Payne 'Critical' After Brain Surgery

Post by christabel on Thu Dec 24, 2009 11:09 pm

This news is so sad.
We should pray she gets better, such a brave lady.

11:46am UK, Thursday December 24, 2009

Lulu Sinclair, Sky News Online
Sara Payne, the mother of murdered schoolgirl Sarah, is critically ill in hospital with complications after brain surgery.

Sara Payne has become a leading campaigner for victims' rights

The child protection campaigner was taken ill on Wednesday and her condition has since worsened, sources close to her family confirmed.
Family members originally intended to keep her plight private until after the Christmas period.
Friend Michele Elliott, founder and director of campaign group Kidscape, said: "Sara is the most wonderful and indomitable person and if anyone can get through this, it's her.

Sarah Payne was killed in 2000 by paedophile Roy Whiting

"Everyone needs to pray and send their good thoughts at this difficult time. I have been in tears."
Mrs Payne, 40, had a life-saving operation to cure a ruptured aneurysm last year, friends said - her father died two years ago, after being left paralysed by an aneurysm.
Since the death of her daughter Sarah at the hands of paedophile Roy Whiting in 2000, Mrs Payne has become a prominent campaigner for victims' rights.
She took up the Government-appointed post of Victims' Champion at the end of January.

Mrs Payne launched a high-profile campaign for "Sarah's Law" after her daughter's murder, aiming to give parents the right to know if paedophiles live near them.
A limited form of the law, based on America's Megan's Law, was announced in February last year.
She was made an MBE in the 2008 New Year Honours List for her tireless work in trying to keep children safe from paedophiles.
Eight-year-old Sarah disappeared while out playing in July 2000. Her body was found in a Sussex field 16 days later, around 15 miles from from the cornfield near her grandparents' home where the little girl had been playing.
Whiting had previously served a jail sentence for abducting and sexually assaulting another eight-year-old girl.

The mother of murdered schoolgirl Sarah Payne is in a "stable" condition after being taken to hospital with complications following brain surgery.

'The early signs of her treatment were positive'

Child protection campaigner Sara Payne, 40, fell ill on Wednesday and was initially thought to be in a "life-threatening condition".
A family source said she had responded well to treatment and her condition has not worsened since she was admitted to St George's Hospital, Tooting, south London.
A hospital spokeswoman said: "She is in a stable condition."
Friend Michele Elliott, founder and director of campaign group Kidscape, said: "Sara is the most wonderful and indomitable person and if anyone can get through this, it's her.
"Everyone needs to pray and send their good thoughts at this difficult time. I have been in tears."
Justice Secretary Jack Straw said: "Our thoughts are with Sara and her family."
Relatives and friends, including fellow campaigner Shy Keenan, have been at her hospital bedside.
Mrs Payne had a life-saving operation to cure a ruptured aneurysm last year.

Campaigner Sara Payne Paralysed By Stroke

11:29am UK, Sunday January 31, 2010

Rob Cole, Sky News Online
Sara Payne has been left paralysed down the left side of her body after suffering a stroke brought on by a brain aneurysm

The mother of murdered schoolgirl Sarah Payne was told she had just a 50-50 chance of survival.
She was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting, south London, with the life threatening condition shortly before Christmas.
Speaking for the first time about her brush with death, the child protection campaigner said she was a "fighter" but had a "long road" to recover.
She told the News of the World: "I've got to take it slowly and be patient.
"The doctors have faith in me and know I'm a fighter.
"But I'm under no illusion - I've months of tough physio to get through and there's a long road ahead.

The doctors have faith in me and know I'm a fighter.

"Rehab is the key to my getting better, to my getting home and getting home is my top priority."
Mrs Payne, 40, from Surrey, survived two major brain operations in 36 hours.
She first had surgery to treat the ruptured aneurysm in 2008.
Since the death of her eight-year-old daughter Sarah at the hands of paedophile Roy Whiting in 2000, she has become a prominent campaigner for victims' rights.
